In the media today there are four major ways of presenting media to the public, these four are radio, television, film and newspapers, and with in these four you have many different ones. For instance there are many different types of newspaper like, The Sun, The Mirror, The Daily Mail, The Star, The Express, The Guardian, The Independent and so on, and the same goes for television, BBC1, BBC2, ITV, Channel 4, Channel 5 and Sky One being the main channels. These channels and papers ect are owned by very few people and its getting smaller.

Possibly the most influential owner is Rupert Murdoch, with his company News Corporation, which owns The Sun, The News Of The World, The Times and The Sunday Times of the newspapers, Sky One, Fox, The Fox News Channel and is also looking to buy Channel 5, in television, 20^th Century Fox, in film, some radio stations, as well as all the other things he owns in Australia and his empire keeps growing. Murdoch all so uses parts of his empire to help other parts e.g., if 20^th century fox has a new film coming out he will use say his newspapers to promote it, or if there is a new show coming out on Fox he will use say one of his other television stations to promote it, like he has just done with the film ‘Kingdom Of Heaven’ and The Sun, he did a two page special on the film.

Murdoch also has a lot of political influence, he had a close alliance with Margaret Thatcher, the sun was a big part of helping John Major win an unexpected election in 1992, in 1997 his papers supported Labour under Tony Blair, he was a friend of Ronald Reagan and his papers strongly supported George Bush in both the 2000 and 2004 elections. Murdoch is Pro-America, Anti-French, and during the 2003 invasion of Iraq all 175 newspapers he owns supported the invasion.

The way the media is being brought and sold these days isn’t good, very few people own the media today and if it keeps going like this in a years to come there will only be two or possibly one owner and it will turn into a monopoly. A monopoly will be a very bad thing to happen to the media because say one person owns all the major papers, television channels and a big lot of the film industry, then the public will only get to hear the opinions of that one owner and very little else.
